Blackwood or Shou Sugi Ban is a technique for wall and facade cladding that originally comes from Japan. Shodoshima is finished in a different way than Naoshima or Naoshima Oak.
At Shodoshima, the wood is flat sawn and then burned, brushed, re-burned and then oiled. This ensures that Shodoshima is suitable for all weather conditions. This finish needs servicing every three to five years.
